Unbox the unit:

You should have the following items:

Gateway unit, partially pre-configured for Mutiny use and pre-set to the IP address shown on the label underneath (192.168.2.1).

Power supply.

2x external antennas.

Ethernet cable.

MultiTech instruction leaflet.

As this non-subscription Gateway unit, you will need to fit a standard (full sized) UK SIM card. Data services are not required for Mutiny-only usage, so you need only purchase a contract that has “unlimited” SMS messages. The SIM card fits in the slot marked at the rear of the unit. As far as we are aware, the unit will work with all UK service providers (e.g. EE, O2 etc.). Do this before powering on the unit.

Instructions for Set-up and Configuration:

Attach the two screw-in aerials to the two rear screw sockets marked “Cell 1” and “Cell 2” and plug in the power adapter.

NOTE that the unit takes up to 2 minutes to boot up.

1. If your gateway has been pre-configured with an address in the range 172.17.77.x, then it has been setup to connect directly to the “eth0” interface on the rear of a physical Mutiny appliance. Find a suitable place to stand the Gateway unit near to the Mutiny appliance and connect the two together, using an Ethernet cable of the required length. You will not be able to connect to the Gateway unit’s management GUI via the Mutiny appliance, so please now go to Step 6.

2. Alternatively, if you intend to connect the Gateway unit to a VLAN on your network, first check that the currently-assigned IP address is correct. If it is, then please go to Step 4.

3. If the gateway’s current IP address is not as required, you will need to set the correct one along with the default gateway that you want it to use. First, attach the Gateway unit to a laptop computer with a cross-over Ethernet cable. Set the IP address of the NIC on the laptop to be on the same IP network as the current address of the Gateway unit. Then you should be able to use a Web browser to access the Gateway unit’s management GUI using the URL:

https://192.168.2.1

The configured username is: “mutinysmsgw” and the password is “Mut1ny5m5Gw”

Follow the instruction leaflet provided by MultiTech - or use the “Help” information within the Gateway unit’s GUI - for guidance on setting the addresses.

After setting the IP address, the gateway will need to reboot and you can then physically connect it to the intended VLAN on your network.

4. Find a suitable VLAN or Ethernet switch on your network to which you can attach the Gateway unit. The physical location of the Gateway unit must be able to obtain a good strong mobile-phone connection to the mobile network of the SIM that you have chosen. The Ethernet switch must be connected to the same VLAN for which the configured IP address is valid.

5. Once the Gateway unit has been attached to your network, you should be able to ping it on the given IP address and be able to use a Web browser to access the Gateway unit’s management GUI using the URL: https://<Gateway Unit IP Address>

The configured username is: “mutinysmsgw” and the password is “Mut1ny5m5Gw”

To Test the Gateway unit from the management GUI, navigate to the page, “SMS”=>”Send SMS”.

Enter the mobile number to which you wish to send a text message, type in the message and press “[Send]”:

A text message should then be sent to the chosen mobile number. If it is not sent, then there may be insufficient mobile-signal strength where the Gateway unit is located or there may be a problem with the installed SIM card. Please fix this before proceeding with the setup.

6. It is recommended that you upgrade your Mutiny system from the Cloud-based Mutiny-Update Server or use the latest bundle available on our Website Downloads page: https://www.mutiny.com/downloads/

7. Follow the normal Mutiny-upgrade procedure as described in the online Mutiny Manual on our Website.

Next, you need to configure your Mutiny system to use the Gateway unit. Log in to the Mutiny system as a “Superadmin” user and from the “[Admin]=>SMS / Modem” page, set the modem details as below (and click “[Update]”):

8. To test the unit from your Mutiny system, logon to Mutiny as a “admin” or “superadmin” user and

navigate to “[Admin]=>Contacts”. Choose an existing Contact (or create a new one) and complete the

“Page” details and click [Test]:

9. If the test is successful the dialogue box will complete as below and the Contact will receive a test SMS

message:

Click the “[Update]” button at the bottom of the page to save the settings.

Your SMS Gateway unit should now be ready for Mutiny use.
